Wimbledon Introduces Video Replay System in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with replay technology

The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in employing video review technology.

Replay technology are set to arrive at Wimbledon this year.

Competitors will gain the right to challenge specific calls made by the official, mirroring the system currently in use at each of the US Open and the Australian Open.

The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the Championships and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This step comes just a year after the AELTC rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the longstanding role of line officials.

Reviewable Decisions

Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to review other situations, including:

  • If a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • If a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
  • Possible interference end of a point.

Notably, there is an unlimited number on the number of challenges a player can request.

Practical Application

An illustrative example took place in Indian Wells last week, where a top player initiated the review system against his opponent.

The British player admitted it was a tough situation for the official, but thought his opponent had "played the rules effectively."

The umpire watched a video and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, awarding the rally to Medvedev.

Broader Adoption

This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open this year.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have the system in place at all of its tournaments.

Further Updates

Another innovation at Wimbledon this year involves the introduction of visual indicators on scoreboards to support the verbal announcements from the electronic line calling system.

This solves situations where fans have sometimes been uncertain whether a ball was in or out.

Finally, with precisely 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have further announced an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
